Edowern V2 - Intro
This is my current island! I restarted partly due to being unsatisfied with the state of my original
one, the way the airport wasn't aligned the way I wanted it to, and because I really didn't feel
like rebuilding the whole thing. I also stopped playing in june, I think, and picked it back up 6
months later. I felt it was best to have it preserved than destroyed.
I tried for like 2 hours to get one map that had the airport entrance link up with res services in
the middle, but the times I managed to get that going the features on the side of the island - the
airport or the little island that sticks out, that I needed to be the big round one - just didn't
match up, so I settled for the RS being as far away from the airport as possible so that I don't
have to worry about matching them at all. Plus it's really in the middle of the island, leaving
plenty of space on the front to decorate since the villagers never use any other part of island
anyways 🙄
It is, of course, very barren at the moment since I just started the playthrough. To be quite
honest, I have very little idea of how the hell I'm going to fill up the island.
The theme I'm going for is somewhat urban, with a 'wilder' forest side somewhere. Most of the issue
right now is that I'm an annoying guy that needs the builds to be logical, so I don't do builds like
'outside library' where all the damn books would be wet and soggy and moldy after a rain shower. I
did try to find ideas for areas to build but they're all like this.. there are few urban islands out
there apparently!
I also like the idea of less modern facilities like trains and post offices from the past games, but
I just can't justify having these or things like that - the island is way too small to justify
trains instead of cars, but it's also too small to justify cars lol. I would be willing to have the
train anyways.. the main idea is having the tracks serve as a separate walking path, but then I
don't like the idea of walking on traintracks with active train activity, or it being abandoned at
all.. I have very little tolerance for immersion-breaking things like this when I'm the one building
thins unfortuantely :/
I'm still considering the idea of a sort of post office being in my basement since I've always liked
the idea of being a mailman (plus I really like messenger bags), but I'm not so sure about the
train. I might end up going 'fuck it' and building it anyways since I have so few ideas left to
populate the island..
I'm also looking into having my villagers also act as their own amenities, like a cafe (most basic
acnh build ever) or the fishery I'm planning to have. They always occupy a lot of space anyways,
like in huge centralized neighbourhoods (that I have to admit are quite useful to checking on
everyone and crafting) but who end up leaving the rest of the island devoid of other features and
focal points. In my original town I did try to decorate the outside of villager's houses according
to their likes and personality, but it still looked weird and kind of cluttered. It really didn't
help that the villagers never used those spaces either.

This concludes my newer catalog, though the island has been through huge changes since march.. hopefully I'll remember to screenshot the new stuff! Oh, also i went back to the white design for the house which makes the orange house icon just. wrong. oh well lol

Well, it's been a long time since the last update. I'm adding this entry on the 11th of june! I don't know what the first pic is, but I assume it's a bunch of flowers I removed. I put all my blue flowers aside because they're just too bright for my liking. They were always just a substitute for while I tried to get my purple hyacinths anyways

Figuring out the space behind RS a bit more.
The main issue is that the medieval walls are 3 tiles high and end up obscuring the view in almost every angle, which is something that doesn't happen with the 2-tile high simple panel. But I really like the stone look so I'm keeping it B)

Not sure what I'm going to do with this upper space, putting a bridge there to collect taxes while I make up my mind. It's a bit more different than having the rs be entirely glued to the cliff like in V1 so that's kind of a win! I think the best I can put in the green space there is flowers since it's very awkward to try and put furniture facing that direction
Also ended up buying yacht, partly because I plan on using them quite a bit on the beach and partly to add it to my catalog without buying it with poki

Putting a bunch of thingamajigs in front of nook's cranny while I also figure out where to put it. I'm planning to do a fake building front with all these store-y furnitures, where the fron is going to resemble the convenience store upgrade from new leaf. but it's gonna require a lot of space which is why I've been putting it off hehe

Connected the entrance of res services to the street at the edge of the sandline.
The level 1 canal is also now properly paved on both sides.
Testing out these two, the medieval one in the right is really nice but I don't know where I'll use that just yet.

Edowern V1
This is my first 'real' island, and the one I played the most before making V2. I don't really
remember why I wanted a fresh start, but V0 was pretty empty anyways, and I'm a big fan of
resets.
Something that really doesn't help is how, despite having somewhat planned things out, it didn't
turn out well. I tried giving the villagers yards that match them and their interests, but it
ends
up looking like a boring setpiece. The museum is kind of neat in concept but in practice it
should
have more stuff going on in the back and around it. The airport is misaligned. The small island
on
the left and the secret beach are stuck so far in the upper left it leaves virtually no space to
decorate.
Something that probably helps is the way I've laid the pavement as well - the diamond pattern
doesn't really look like it fits a proper street, and there's so much of it and not much of
actual
grass and greenery to balance it out. Another thing is how I had so many left over hybrids that
I
just didn't have anywhere I knew to properly put them and it ended up making the island feel
even
messier.
But it was fun while it lasted! It does have a sensible layout following the river, but that's
where
the 'nice' parts kind of end.

the default villager looks soooo pathetic compared to muffy. my fashion game is below awful

made a macro that spams A and assigned it and Y to two mouse buttons. turning off vsync makes the
game run on 2x speed. took me like 5 minutes to fill up my inventory B) plus the catch dialog
gets skipped automatically. practically beaten life

the canal is almost two entire acres and yet i can see almost all of it on one screen!

One of the most fun parts of the game for me that keeps roping me back in when I remember custom
designs. I especially love recreating characters from other media! :D

Designs
You can find my designs and my pro designs here, as
a zip file with both as folders. It will get updated with each iteration, so check the updates tab!
How to use:
If using emulators (or you have a means of editing your switch save) use the NH save editor, go to the 'map' tab, click in
edit patterns/edit pro designs, then click Dump/Import and then 'load design'. This will overwrite
whatever design you have currently selected. Then click 'save' and, at the main window, either
ctrl+s or File > Save.
Alternatively, you can rename all of them, changing their extension from .nhpd to .acnh and
importing them into ACpatterns, and then being able to
edit it online or export as a QR code (which I think you can use in the normal switch?).
This section only pertains to updates done to the layout and page.
Changed favorite villager from Goldie to Fang in the villager page. Yes I also love Goldie dearly but Fang is more relatable lol
